Use manual transactions for activity that is not imported automatically, or to correct details that Plutus allows you to manage.

Add a transaction

  1. Open Transactions.
  2. Select Add transaction.
  3. Choose the account.
  4. Enter the date, payee or description, and amount.
  5. Choose the correct transaction direction or sign.
  6. Add a category, tags, notes, or status when relevant.
  7. Save.

Check the account balance or transaction list immediately after saving, particularly when entering an opening adjustment.

Edit a transaction

Open the transaction from the list, change the available fields, then save. Connected transactions can contain provider-owned fields that Plutus preserves during later syncs. Prefer changing categorisation, payee cleanup, tags, and notes rather than source banking identifiers.

Use the correct status

Transaction status communicates where an entry is in its lifecycle. Pending activity may later be replaced or updated when the bank settles it. Avoid treating pending and cleared versions as two separate purchases until the connection has completed its update.

Delete an incorrect entry

Delete a transaction only when it should not exist. If the entry arrived from a connection, first check whether it is a temporary pending record or whether the provider may send it again.

Confirm the result

Filter to the affected account and date. Verify the amount, sign, category, and resulting balance before moving on.

Common problems

  • Use a transfer rather than two unrelated spending transactions when money moves between your own accounts.
  • Do not manually recreate transactions while an initial bank sync is still running.
  • Check the selected account before saving; moving history later can affect balances.
